At the University of New England rats received 2nd° burns followed by a single application of salmon thrombin, morphine, or vehicle to the burn site. Pain was assessed for 14 days by the Von Frey method. Morphine and vehicle were ineffective. Treatment with salmon thrombin reduced both the depth and duration of burn pain in a dose dependent manner.
